The Greater Colorado Council is looking for those that want to make the summer full of adventure for the Scouts that come through our gates. Spending your summer at McNeil Scout Ranch at Peaceful Valley will provide you with an opportunity to not only have the adventure of a lifetime, but to also affect the lives of thousands of youth from across the country.
Working on camp staff is a great opportunity to make your summer full of adventure! Spend your days taking Scouts on hikes, teaching them how to shoot a gun, or relaxing with them in the evenings as you all sit around a campfire telling stories and watching skits.
Benefits
The Counselor in Training program has returned!
The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program is for youth that are interested in becoming camp staff members in the future. The CIT program gives youth that participate a “glimpse” at what life is like as a camp staff member and all that it takes to run a summer camp. CIT’s are required to spend the Staff Training Week at camp to receive valuable training and assist in setting the camp up for the season. After Staff Week, CIT’s can work one additional week when campers are in camp. During the camper week, CIT’s will spend each day in a different area including program areas and operations areas to learn about what it takes to be a successful staff member. If a CIT meets or exceeds expectations during their two weeks, they can opt to volunteer additional weeks at the approval of the CIT Director.
Age Requirement: 15 years old (or turning 15 before August 1, 2025)
Commitment: Staff Training Week (June 1-7) and one additional week (June 8-14; June 15-21; June 22-28; June 29-July 5; July 6-12). If the CIT meets or exceeds expectations during staff week and their second week, then CIT’s may opt to volunteer additional weeks at the approval of the CIT Director.
Fee: $200 (provides two weeks of housing, food, limited medical care and training and guidance). $100 for additional weeks if approved.
Compensation: Counselor’s-in-Training are participants and do not receive compensation for participating. CIT’s are eligible to earn community service hours if desired. Rank advancements and merit badges can be earned if desired. CIT’s also will receive camp staff discounts in the trading post!
Applicants must apply and interview to be a Counselor in Training. The purpose of this is to teach CIT’s real world job skills of applying and interviewing for a job.
Program Counselors: Age 16 & older; Our Program Counselors are the heart and soul of summer camp. Program Counselors teach skills to our campers, lead activities, perform skits and songs at campfires, and do what’s necessary to keep camp running smoothly. Apply to work in an area that suits your skills like shooting sports, climbing, aquatics, handicrafts, outdoor skills, STEM, Hollywood, cycling, and much more! Program Counselors for “high-risk” areas like Shooting Sports, Climbing, and Aquatics may require you to be age 18 & older.
Area Directors: Age 18 & older; Area Directors are responsible for planning and execution of the activities in their program or operations area. They oversee other Program or Operations Counselors and CITs assigned to their area. Strong leadership skills are required, as well as a commitment to program planning before summer camp. Area Directors for “high-risk” areas like Shooting Sports, Climbing, and Aquatics must be age 21 & older.
Operations Staff: Age 16 & older (Trading Post Clerks) Age 18 & Older (All other Operations positions); Our Operations staff work behind the scenes and “make it happen.” If teaching isn’t your thing but you want to make camp run, these are the positions for you. Positions include Maintenance Quartermasters, Trading Post staff (clerks, Manager, Director), Office staff, Dining Hall Steward, and Health Staff.
Camp Administration: Age 21 & older; maybe you’ve spent a few summers as an Area Director, and think you can make camp even better? Maybe you have outside leadership experience and can apply that to camp operations? Apply to be on the leadership team to help plan summer camp throughout the year. Camp Director, Program Director, Assistant Program Director & Business Manager positions available. Camp Leadership positions require a commitment during the months leading up to summer camp.
PLEASE NOTE:
You must apply for EACH position you want to be considered for. Each application can only be considered for the job that was applied for.
All positions are temporary, seasonal positions for SUMMER 2025. Contract dates vary, but fall between May 23, 2025 and August 5, 2025. Salaried positions are FLSA Exempt. Hourly positions are eligible for overtime.

After you have submitted your application, it will be reviewed. During this time, you should send the reference form link to three people to fill out on your behalf.
After you’ve submitted that application, it will be reviewed. If we are interested in learning more about you, then you will be invited to attend an interview. It is preferable that applicants attend an in-person interview, however we do have video and phone options for those that are outside of the Denver area.
After your interview, your application and interview responses will be evaluated by the Greater Colorado Council Camps Management Team. The team firmly believes in placing staff members in the right position for the right reasons.
After the interview, the Management team will either offer you a position or decline to hire you at this time.
If you have been offered a position, you will be sent a email to log into WorkBright. Workbright is the on-boarding system that we use to have employees sign paperwork, take training and keep track of employment documents while you are employed with us. It is important that each employee completes all required items on WorkBright to include paperwork and training. Employees that have not completed all required items will not be allowed to start work.
During the months leading up to camp, staff should continue to complete WorkBright items. Camp Management will communicate with staff via email about upcoming expectations and plans for the summer. It is encouraged that staff attend orientation to meet fellow staff members and learn more about the upcoming summer. During this time, if you have any questions about camp, you should reach out to your Camp Director or Program Director. The contact information is listed on the left side of this page.
Once you have completed all of your paperwork and ordered your uniforms, you will be ready to start work! Remember, you cannot start work if you are missing paperwork.
Your Camp Director will notify you of the time, day and location in which you should arrive to begin work. A packing list and orientation will also be provided prior to your start of work.
