Venturing Leader Training

What makes a trained Venture Leader? Four training modules available online at MyScouting.org . Group training in GCC districts and the council is also available.

Youth Protection Training

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for all Scouting leaders who have direct contact with youth. It is recommended for parents of all youth as well. YPT teaches appropriate behavior when working with youth. YPT is available online at My.Scouting.org, as well as through district/council trainings.

Start Training Now

Leaders may immediately begin training online after registering as a leader and before meeting youth members.

Position-Specific Training

Hands-on training is available to teach leaders how to run meetings and work with youth. Training is based on the leader’s position, including Venturing  Crew Advisors and assistants. Training is available at My.Scouting.org, as well as by the district or council.

A direct-contact Scout leader is considered fully trained and entitled to wear the trained leader emblem once they have completed the required training courses. There are always more training opportunities available!

This is Scouting is a new online training session that replaced New Leader Essentials and is offered through MyScouting.org , as well as by DVD (No. 36118), for areas with limited web access.

Supplemental Adult Training for Venturing Leaders

Wood Badge

Wood Badge offers advanced training in leadership skills and is available to all leaders in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Varsity Scouts, and Venturing, as well as council and district Scouters. Training is offered through the council.

Powder Horn

Powder Horn is a high-adventure resource training provided by the council. It is designed to expose older Scouts and adult unit leaders to the activities and resources necessary to operate a successful outdoor/high-adventure unit-level program

The Trainer’s EDGE

The Trainer’s EDGE is a required train-the-trainer course for Wood Badge and NYLT staff. It supplements the practice offered through Wood Badge and NYLT staff development and is offered through the council.
