Scouting for Food History
Scouting for Food, the nation’s largest food drive, began as one Scout’s service project in St. Louis in 1985 and was adopted by the National Organization in 1988. Packs, Troops, and Crews all across America participate in this service project to collect food for those in need.
Register for Scouting for Food
Join us as we team up with Food Bank of the Rockies and food pantries across the State of Colorado for Scouting for Food; a neighborhood based food collection campaign that will help feed the hungry across Colorado this holiday season. Items collected stay in your community and will be distributed directly to those in need.
A list of participating food pantries/banks will be posted on the Greater Colorado Council website.
Sign up and request door hangers!
Follow the Steps Below for Success
Attend the Kick Off
Our goal is to have every unit participate in Scouting for Food and we’re determined to make it the best year yet! Join us at Hamilton Scout Headquarters, Magness Conference Room as we Kick Off this years food drive. There is no charge for the Kick off. We would like to prepare and place for you, please register here for the Kick Off. Each unit should select a Scouting for Food Coordinator and begin planning for a successful food drive.
Distribute Door Hangers
On November 2 & 3, distribute door hangers close to home. Have adult accompanied, uniformed Scouts leave door hangers on the front doors of your neighbors. Keep track of the specific addresses where door hangers and place.
Collect Food
Filled bags should be left out overnight Friday, November 8. Scouts and their parents will return to each house and collect all food donations. Items can be picked up the morning of Saturday, November 9, 2024, beginning at 9 a.m. Please be sure to canvass the entire neighborhood.
Units will need to track the total number of bags of food collected and the number of participating Scouts to include on their Scouting for Food report before delivering the food to their receiving organization.
Report Results
Be sure record your service hours for a job well done. Service hours are now being reported via Scoutbook! More information and instructions will be included at a later date.
