Cub Scouts is a program expertly tailored to match each age group in a child’s life.

what will i do in cub scouts?

Cub Scouts go fishing, build rockets, eat s’mores, and make lifelong friends. Plus, there’s the pinnacle of most Cub Scout years – the Pinewood Derby! Cub Scouts earn recognition while doing fun activities with their family, using a handbook as their guide. They participate in awesome adventures at camp and on field trips including:

  • Trips to TV/weather stations
  • Tours of police/fire stations
  • Visits to animal shelters
  • Camping and hiking trips
  • Pinewood derbies and rocket launches
  • Field trips to art galleries, museums and more!

Is Cub Scouts a Family activity?

Yes! Cub Scouts is open for boys, girls, and parents – Cub Scouting provides an opportunity to engage the entire family! Working together, you will complete and sign off on the requirements found in the Cub Scout handbook – from doing a magic trick to creating a fire-escape plan for the family home. Parents are welcome and encouraged to get involved as a Pack leader or volunteer. By serving as a leader you can help influence the kind of adult that Scouts grow to be. Many tools, resources, and training programs are available to assist volunteers in becoming effective leaders and enjoy their experience.

How often do we meet?

Cub Scouts is organized in Packs, and each Pack has individual Dens. Each Scout pack is sponsored by a local chartered organization, like a school, church, or service club. A Pack is made up of all the participants at a particular school in grades K-5. Dens are the subgroups of each particular grade level. For example, all the first graders are in the “Tiger Den,” and the six various grade-level Dens make up the school’s Pack. Dens meet either weekly or every other week, and the Pack meets about once a month to showcase activities and receive awards, sometimes joined by special guests like magicians, zookeepers, or fireman.

How Much Does it Cost?

Each Pack determines the dues per year for its participants, based on its annual activity budget. Part of the cost includes a national membership fee that goes to the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America to handle the cost of essential services for those participating in approved Scouting activities, program resources, safety standards, youth protection and personal safety training, and services to councils nationwide to sustain Scouting. In addition, a Pack’s costs also include funds for its individual activities, including campouts, speakers, excursions, materials, and other expenses. Lastly, each youth must buy a uniform (which they can wear for multiple years while in Scouting). On average, the annual Pack dues are between $200 and $300 per year, and a uniform costs approximately $75.
